About Doug
Doug grew up in Creswell, Oregon "The Friendly City" in the 1960's and 70's. He was raised attending a Mennonite Brethren Church, where he eventually served as an Elder. In 1982 he and his wife, Angela were married. Together they raised three children: Rachel, Jared and Megan. As pastors came and went, and Doug and his family's needs changed, God took them on a denominational journey, where they learned a great deal about the diverse things being taught in different churches today.
Doug began working part-time for his father in the poultry processing industry when he was 15. By age 21, after attending college in Storm Lake, Iowa for two years (seeking a degree in Music Education), he began working in the family business full time. In 1988, after the family business became another family's problem, Doug began working as a Deputy Sheriff, for the Lane County Sheriff's Office. He retired from the LCSO in 2013 as the Chief Deputy, second in command, answering directly to the elected Sheriff. While at the sheriff's office he served on numerous criminal justice teams and boards including the Drug Court Advisory board, The Children of Incarcerated Parents Committee, the Adult Offender Public Safety Coordinating Council Committee, and the local Supervisory Authority Team. He served to develop Lane County's evidence-based approach to adult corrections. Doug obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Oregon University, majoring in Liberal Studies with an emphasis on Anthropology and Sociology. He has an Executive Level Certificate from the State of Oregon Department Of Public Safety Standards and Training, and was a nationally Certified Jail Manager. For five years Doug self-published an eight-page monthly newsletter titled, "The Watchful Watchman." which focused on world events in light of end-times related Bible prophecy. It is the hundreds of pages of notes and thousands of hours of study accomplished during that time, that serve as the basis of Doug's book titled "Watch!". Doug's second book is titled, "False Christian God's: Choose Your Jesus Wisely." His most recent book is titled "Leaving the Church to Follow Jesus." When Doug is not working on writing, producing videos, or the latest episode of the Called-Out Cafe, he and Angela take care of their small blueberry farm (Lost Valley Blueberry Farm) and do a little traveling when God allows. Doug enjoys writing and playing music, his grandchildren and his Bernese Mountain Dog, Copper: AKA the "Love Pig." Doug has always had a passion for sharing his knowledge with groups of all sizes and is a gifted and engaging speaker. He has been a keynote speaker at Law Enforcement Events and as the Chief Deputy he was routinely called on to speak for community groups and give presentations to private and government organizations on a variety of topics. He has taught and spoke at small group bible studies and church on the book of Revelation and the topics covered in his books. |
